Aliaga Garnacha Vieja 2007 [Red]
Producer: Bodegas Camino del Villar
Region: DO Navarra

Garnacha has long been the heart of Navarra wines. Unfortunately, in the last 20 years, nearly half of the region's Garnacha vineyards have been replaced with more "fashionable" varieties like Tempranillo & Cabernet Sauvignon. Despite these trends, the Aliaga family has kept it's focus on Garnacha for more than 50 years. Thankfully, in the last couple of years, trends have shifted once again toward Garnacha and this superb old vines oak-aged Garnacha shows why.

Nice dark cherry red color and an excellent nose showing bright cherry/berry fruit with a typical underbrushy scent over finely spiced quality oak aromas. Good body with fresh fruit flavors (strawberry/raspberry), toasty oak and dried spice flavors on the palate. Great length and overall a very good wine and an excellent value.

I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
