Wine of the Week

Viņa Ardanza 1999 [Red]
Producer: La Rioja Alta
Region: DOC Rioja

This wine's a Rioja classic and a perennial favorite in Spain's better restaurants. Made from 80% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha, it's smooth and user friendly, especially with a meal. An excellent wine, and very much ready to drink now.

Medium dark cherry red color, showing brick/brown along the edge. Nicely complex on the nose with a pleasant mix of ripe red berry fruit, leather, and bottle bouquet. On the palate it's very smooth and easy to drink with fruit, leather and spice (clove). Excellent finish.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
