Wine of the Week

Tilenus Pagos de Posada 2000 [Red]
Producer: Bodegas Estefanía
Region: DO Bierzo

The Mencía grape reds from the Bierzo region in northwest Spain have come into their own in recent years. In the past Bierzo was known for light colored, simple reds, but today Mencía is showing itself to be top quality grape, capable of producing wines with fruit, depth, color and complexity - like Tilenus Pagos de Posada. A good match for a prime rib of beef´

Very dark bing cherry red color. Wonderfully complex nose shows ripe blackberry/blueberry fruit, chocolate, spice and a nice minerally/graphite sensation. A medium-bodied palate with ample fruit, tasty and fresh with crisp acidity and great length. Excellent.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
