Wine of the Week

Mauro Vendimia Seleccionada 1997 [Red]
Producer: Bodegas Mauro
Region:

Sitting on the geographic edge of the Ribera del Duero region, Mauro has made consistently good, non-DO wines and this "special selection" is no exception. Limited production and a healthy price tag make this wine one few get to try, but this hearty red is a real winner that should work well with a prime rib of beef. Excellent.

Dark cherry red color showing garnet along the edge. Potent yet elegant nose shows ripe jammy blackberry/cherry fruit, balsamics (bay leaf, eucaliptus) and spicy note of well integrated, quality oak. Full-bodied palate that is wonderfully smooth with great depth and complexity. Elegant, nicely balanced with terrific depth and length.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
