Vermut
Wine of the Week

Vermut Louis XIV [Fortified]
Producer: Fondillon Louis XIV
Region: DO Alicante

100% monastrell, 70% young vermouth, 30% 8 year old fortified monastrell wine nurtured together in 600 liter American oak "botas".

Brownish/orange color aromas of nuts (almonds/walnuts), dried fruits (cranberry/apricot), gently spiced.
Smooth and easy on the palate: old wood spice and dried cherries/cranberries, figs/prunes. Balanced, not at all bitter, nice finish, excellent stuff.

Great on its own as an aperitif, also combines well with well-aged cheeses, chocolate and nuts. Serve chilled or on the rocks with a slice of lemon.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
