Borsao
Wine of the Week

Borsao Barrica 2021 [Red]
Producer: Bodegas Borsao
Region: DO Campo de Borja

60% garnacha, 40% tempranillo, primarily from old bush vines planted on rocky clay/limestone soils in the Moncayo foothills of Aragon. The fermented wine is nurtured for a short time in oak "barricas".

A hearty wine with ample fruit (blueberry/blackberry), spice, hints of brushy herbs and a decent dose of oak.
Somewhat rustic in nature, but with lovely smooth tannins, bright berry fruit and some oaky notes: cinnamon, cardamomo & chocolate. If there's a better wine in Spain for the money, I haven't found it. Very good & a terrific value.

Note:"Cierzo" winds from the nearby Moncayo mountains provide relief from the scorching summer heat, bringing balance & fruity freshness to the grapes.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
