Wine of the Week

San Román 2019 [Red]
Producer: San Román Bodegas y Viñedos
Region: DO Toro

100% tempranillo (locally known as tinta de toro), vines over 40 years old, organically grown on sandy/gravel soils with an underlying layer of clay. Nurtured 2 years in a mix of French and American oak barrels (225 & 500 liter). Bottled February 2022.

Dark wild cherry fruit with a murmur of strawberry, a hint of spice and stony minerals.
Deep, complex, with rich ripe fruit, serious yet elegant and polished tannins, cigar box & chocolate and a long pleasure driven finish. Outstanding.

San Román is the second project of reputed winemake Mariano García, after many years as Vega Sicilia's head winemaker.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
