Wine of the Week

Alto de la Estrella 2019 [Red]
Producer: Sotomanrique
Region: Cebreros

100% garnacha from a single vineyard planted in 1961 on slate soils, 1,100 meters above sea level. After an extended fermentation, the wine is transferred to a 2,000 wooden vat, resting there for 14 months before bottling.

Ripe red cherries, dried flowers and dusty mountain herbs (thyme/rosemary) with a whisper of earthy minerals.
Smooth tannins, tea leaves, fresh and easy on the palate where the slate component is more palpable. An excellent wine and a fine example of a class Cebreros garnacha.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
