Wine of the Week

Muga Blanco 2020 [White]
Producer: Bodegas Muga
Region: DOC Rioja

Mainly viura (macabeo) grapes with some garnacha blanca & malvasía riojana (alarije), grown in the Rioja Alta subzone. Fermented in oak (barrels & vats), developing on the lees for about 4 months.

Dry flowers/straw, quince, pears and grapefruit; the wood is well integrated, minimal presence.
Fresh with a nice creamy texture, ample fruit (apple/citrus) and a sandy mineral sensation on the finish. Very good all-purpose white wine.

Rioja's not well known for its white wines (around 10% of the production), but there are many pleasant surprises like this little gem from Muga.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
