Wine of the Week

A Horquilla 2020 [White]
Producer: Esteban Celemín
Region: Vinos de España

Albillo real from very old vines (120 years) on the banks of the Duero River. A blend of grapes from two plots, one planted on dense clay, the other on lighter sandy soils. Fermented and nurtured for 11 months in barrel.

Apples, pears, grass/mountain herbs, and mossy river gravel.
Rich, fresh and a lovely creamy mouthfeel with tree fruits and herbs, complex, great length. A splendid bottle of wine.

The name refers to the traditional way albillo is pruned, "a horquilla" = fork pruned. Excellent work by an old friend & tasting companion, Esteban Celemín.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
