Wine of the Week

Alfonso Oloroso [Fortified]
Producer: Gonzalez Byass
Region: DO Jerez-Xéres-Sherry, Manzanilla

100% palomino fino grapes grown on chalky "Albariza" soils. Developed an average of 8 years in the traditional solera system, in well used sherry barrels made of American oak.

Nutty (walnuts/almonds), spicy (curry), old wood and dried apricots.
Very dry on the palate with dried fruit, nuts, caramel & chocolate. Smooth, a hint of oak, nicely integrated alcohol and decent length. Very good.

A user friendy introduction to oloroso, one of the pillars of the sherry family of fortified wines. Terrific value, good in the glass or as a tasty addition to many dishes: stews, sauces, hearty soups...
