Wine of the Week

Amaren 60 Malvasía 2019 [White]
Producer: Bodegas Amaren
Region: DOC Rioja

100% malvasía riojana, old vines planted in 1912 on clay/limestone soils in Leza (Rioja Alavesa), nurtured on the lees in concrete eggs for 15 months.

Golden straw color, great concentration of aromas with dry flowers, pears, cinnamon spice and a subtle mineral background.
Bright & fresh on the palate with tannins that fuse nicely with the fruit, spice and crisp acidity. Nice length, and excellent bottle of wine that should cellar well. A keeper.

Malvasía riojana is known by several names: rojal, alarije and others. It is not the same grape as the malvasías grown around the Mediterranean and Canary Islands.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
