Wine of the Week

Faustino I Gran Reserva 2010 [Red]
Producer: Bodegas Faustino
Region: DOC Rioja

A typical Rioja blend: mostly tempranillo with a dose of graciano & mazuelo, nurtured in Franch and American oak barrels for 24 months.

Shows very good color, still a nice dark cherry red. Clean & fresh with plums & berries, spice (cinnamon/tabacco/chocolate).
Smooth silky tannins, some old wood flavors, fruit & oak in balance. Finish seemed a bit short at first, but improved dramatically with a bit of air. A very good bottle of wine.

A well made wine from the classy 2010 vintage. Should cellar well for a few years to come.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
