Wine of the Week

Manuel Quintano El Pionero 2019 [Red]
Producer: Bodegas y Viņedos labastida
Region: DOC Rioja

Mainly tempranillo plus a small amount of garnacha from selected plots in Labastida. (Some of the older vineyards have garnacha planted alongside the tempranillo). Nurtured 12 months in 225 liter French oak barrels.

Nice dark cherry red color with violet tints. Currant & blueberry, licorice, chocolate & brioche toast.
Vibrant tannins, balanced acidity and good persistence. A nice bottle of wine.

El Pionero is the entry level version of Labastida's Manuel Quintano project. Interesting wines, both red & white.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
