Wine of the Week

La Cuchareta 2015 [Red]
Producer: Jesús Mayoral
Region: DOC Rioja

100% tempranillo, nurtured 12+ months in American oak barrels. Vineyards in the Rioja Alta sub-zone in the Nájera area.

A shade timid on opening with a touch of toast, beeswax & tobacco/cigarbox. With a little air, rich ripe blueberry fruit comes to the forefront. Complex, balanced.
Smooth tannins, easy on palate, a good example of a traditional style Rioja Reserva. Very good.

A new project with roots in the historic town of Nájera. Interesting package as well.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
