Wine of the Week

Louis XIV Ánforas 2021 [Red]
Producer: Toneles Centenarios
Region: DO Alicante

A classic Alicante blend of 60% monastrell, 30% arcos & 10% bonicaire from old vines (planted in the 1960's) on sandy soils in the Paraje de Canyada area. Nurtured for 4 months in wood-fired pottery "amphorae".

Dark berry fruit (black cherry/blueberry) with floral/herbal scents and a lingering saline/mineral background.
Fresh on nose & palate, with sweet ripe fruit, vigorous yet harmonious tannins and good persistence. A very good, complex & balanced wine.

Recently bottled, showing real promise. Kept the bottle for several days in the fridge; developed beautifully, smoothing out, gaining depth & flavor. A keeper.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
