Montebuena
Wine of the Week

Montebuena 2019 [Red]
Producer: Bodegas Solagüen
Region: DOC Rioja

100% tempranillo from the Montebuena vineyards around the town of Labastida in Rioja Alavesa, nurtured 3 to 4 months in oak barrels.

First whiff: blackberries, dry herbs & hay, second whiff and beyond: more fruit (berries & cherries), brushy herbs and a hint of smoke.
Clean & fresh with ample fruit, seamless with pert/smooth tannins and touch of licorice and chocolate. Balanced acidity, persistent, a hint of river stones on the finish. Delicious, an excellent Alavesa red.

Solagüen/Montebuena co-op has shown itself over the years to be a reliable producer of very good, value-driven wines.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
