Wine of the Week

Gran Reserva 890 2004 [Red]
Producer: La Rioja Alta, SA
Region: DOC Rioja

95% tempranillo, 3% graciano, 2% mazuelo from the winery's own vineyards, nurtured 6 years in American oak barrels, bottled (unfiltered) in March 2011.

A lovely nose in classic Rioja Gran Reserva style: blueberry/plum, spice (nutmeg/cardamom), fine leather, beeswax, the list goes on...
Silky smooth tannins with well ripened fruit, old wood, licorice, chocolate/cocoa and perhaps a hint of dried apricots. Great balance and a finish that goes on forever. A tremendous wine, truly outstanding stuff.

This has to be one of Spain's finest wines. Perfect with our 2021 Christmas dinner.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
