Wine of the Week

Alonso del Yerro 2016 [Red]
Producer: Viņedos Alonso del Yerro
Region: DO Ribera del Duero

100% tempranillo grown on clay, limestone and gravel based soils in vineyards 800 meters above sea level. Nurtured 12 months in French oak barrels (approx. 10% new).

Clean, elegant nose with blackberry/blueberry, brushy upland herbs, lightly toasted oak, spice and a little hint of stone fruit (peach?).
Serious tannins, smooth but still with a bit of grip, ripe fruit flavors, dry herbs, chocolate/cocoa and a lengthy finish. Good balance. A very good bottle of wine that can only improve over the next few years.

Viņedos Alonso del Yerro remains a personal favorite, a reliable producer vintage after vintage.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
