Wine of the Week

ROC Valtuille 2017 [Red]
Producer: Verónica Ortega
Region: DO Bierzo

100% mencía from very old vineyards (some 90+ years old), manually crushed (foot stomping) and nurtured 14 months in used French oak barrels.

Blackberry/blueberry, thyme, dry flowers & heather with a distinct stony mineral background.
Deep, dark & rich on the palate, fresh acidity with well ripened dark berry fruit, serious tannins, well rounded & smooth. Very good persistence. An excellent bottle of wine.

Cádiz born wine maker Verónica Ortega's Bierzo wines show off the true potential of old vines mencía grapes.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
