Wine of the Week

Cau d’en Genis 2019 [White]
Producer: Alta Alella
Region: DO Alella

100% pansa blanca (xarel.lo) from a single vineyard on sandy granite soils close to the Mediterranean Sea. Nurtured 6 months in concrete eggs. Certified organic.

Sharp/intense nose with apple, peach & grapefruit, hints of dry grass, fennel and stony/salty minerality.
Steely acidity with apples/pears, citrus, fresh cut hay, saline/mineral. There's depth, balance, fruit, freshness & great persistence. Excellent.

The vineyard's seaside location and "sauló" (sandy/granite) soils make for a wine with character and a definite sense of place. The concrete eggs gently stir the lees, bringing extra richness while avoiding unnecessary exposure to oxygen.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
