Wine of the Week

Vilerma 2020 [White]
Producer: A Vilerma
Region: DO Ribeiro

Grapes: 60% treixadura, blended with godello, albariño, loureira, lado & torrontés, all grown on the property. Free run & gently pressed juice, fermented in stainless steel tanks. Bottled in March 2021.

Intense floral/herbal aromas at the outset (honeysuckle/thyme/dill), fresh grassy notes and a hint of fennel/basil, followed by stone fruit (peaches) and citrus (grapefruit).
Full of flavor with pears & peaches, quince and pineapple; a touch saline with balanced acidity and good persistence. An excellent wine, good now but will just get better with some time in the cellar.

Starting in 1977, Arsenio Paz's Vilerma was the pioneer that showed the quality potential of the Ribeiro region, and what the local grape varieties had to offer.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
