Wine of the Week

Ansa 2015 [Red]
Producer: Bodega 202
Region: DOC Rioja

100% old vines tempranillo (60+ years old) from the area of Elvillar (Rioja Alavesa), nurtured 14 months in new French oak barrels. Bottled in May 2017.

Pure pleasure at first sniff with layers of mature berry fruit (blueberry/blackberry), spice & lingering notes of "crianza" (cocoa/cigar box).
Serious stuff with great complexity and depth of flavor: ripe fruit, nicely integrated oak, lovely smooth tannins & a superb finish. A keeper.

Bodega 202 is a boutique winery and a newcomer to the Rioja wine scene. Had the good fortune to sample several of their wines recently, all were very good, but this Ansa 2015 really stood out.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
