Wine of the Week

Becquer Blanco 2016 [White]
Producer: Bodegas Escudero
Region: DOC Rioja

A 50/50 blend of viura (60 year old vines) and chardonnay (40 year old vines), barrel fermented and nurtured on the lees with batonnage for 8 months.

It's taken on a bit of color, but no signs of oxidation. Ripe stone fruit and oak-based scents with honey, beeswax, dry flowers/straw & spice (clove/cinnamon).
Rich and almost sweet on the palate with dried apricots, almonds and a hint of smoke & cardamom. Long and smooth with balanced acidity. Excellent.

A wine built to last, nice on its own, with a meal or a chunk of well aged cheese.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
