Wine of the Week

Gran Bierzo El Culebral 2018 [Red]
Producer: Viñas del Bierzo
Region: DO Bierzo

A single vineyard selection: 80% mencía, 20% palomino, two months resting in concrete tanks, 12 months in bottle before release. Organically grown grapes, vines 30-60 years old.

In the beginning there was fruit, lots of fruit: blackberry, raspberry, plums, red currants and a hint of smoke.
Clean, sweet berry fruit, medium bodied with lively yet mild tannins, smooth & easy drinking. Excellent.

An interesting wine, a field blend of red & white grapes from a heritage vineyard, fermented in bare concrete tanks.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
