Wine of the Week

Minius Mencía 2019 [Red]
Producer: Adegas Valmiñor
Region: DO Monterrei

100% mencía grapes, gently crushed, temperature controlled fermentation, malolactic in stainless steel.

Great nose, clean and all about fruit: blackberry, cherry, red currants. There are also some grassy/herbal notes (thyme, forest ferns) and a hint of minerals.
Fresh and bright on palate with plenty of ripe berry fruit, nice balance with crisp lemony acidity, a touch of earthy mushrooms and excellent length. A very good wine, excellent value as well.

Have enjoyed their godello-based white wine in the past, but this is a first look at the Minius Mencía. Both are quite enjoyable.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
