Albamar
Wine of the Week

Albamar O Esteiro 2017 [Red]
Producer: Bodegas Albamar
Region: DO RÍas Baixas

A blend of regional grapes: mencía, caiño & espadeiro. Nurtured 8 months in French oak barrels.

Lean, clean, bright with ample black cherry & blackberry fruit, mountain herbs (grassy/mineral).
To quote an old beer commercial from my youth, "It's light, but not too light; the taste that's right." Easy drinking at 11% ABV, but with lots going on, plenty of flavor & fruit. After a few minutes in the glass, shows a hint of smoke and beef jerky. Excellent.

Albariño whites may rule in Galicia's Rías Baixas, but there are some interesting reds as well. This is one of them.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
