Wine of the Week

Leyenda Oloroso [Fortified]
Producer: M. Gil Luque
Region: DO Jerez-Xéres-Sherry, Manzanilla

100% palomino fino, aged in sherry "botas" under the "solera" system where multiple vintages are gradually blended over many years.

An attractive wildflower honey color with a delightfully complex nose: toasted nuts, dried figs and apricots, orange peel & spice.
The palate is smooth with dried fruits, hazlenuts & honey, and the alcohol (a serious 18%) is well integrated. Excellent, terrific value.

Unlike the fino sherries, which are aged under a veil of yeast called "flor", olorosos see only oxidative barrel time.
A pleasant aperitif wine that also goes well with hearty dishes like stews or game, and a great flavor enhancer for soups and stews. It will keep well, even after it's opened.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
