Wine of the Week

Finca San Martín 2017 [Red]
Producer: Torre de Oña
Region: DOC Rioja

Torre de Oña is the "boutique winery", part of La Rioja Alta group, located in the Rioja Alavesa sub-region. 100% Tempranillo, aged for 16 months in a mix of French & American oak.

Nice dark cherry color, dark berry fruit aromas (blueberry) with oaky overtones (spice/vanilla). The palate brings fruit (blueberry/blackberry) & a slightly herbaceous note. Tannins still prominent, as is the oak. Needs bottle time.

2017 was a difficult vintage in the area: spring frosts & a dry hot growing season made for uneven ripening. The wines need time to develop.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
