Wine of the Week

Castaño Monastrell 2001 [Red]
Producer: Bodegas Castaño
Region: DO Yecla

Made from the Mediterranean Monastrell grape [aka Mourvèdre], this cost effective young wine is an excellent example of the possibilities of this quality red grape. A bright, fresh wine with body and noticable tannins; it should work well with barbequed spare ribs.

Dark garnet/purple color. Beautiful fruit driven nose of blackberries & raspberries with nice flowery overtones. The palate's powerful and tannic; smooth and fruity at the same time. Good balance and excellent length. Very good.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
