Torre de Oņa Reserva 2009 [Red]
Producer: La Rioja Alta, SA
Region: DOC Rioja

Always an attention getter, this estate bottled wine from La Rioja Alta's Torre de Oņa winery in Rioja Alavesa is well worth a try. Mainly Tempranillo (95%), aged 20 minths in oak barrels (70% French, 30% other). An excellent wine, that will certainly improve with cellaring.

A bit closed at first, but opens nicely in the glass. Initially showing a whiff of smoke & spice, the nose grows in intensity and complexity with vanilla, chocolate, blueberries & blackberries. On the palate, the same dark berry fruit, chocolate & spice combine with firm yet smooth tannins. The oak remains in the background with a pleasantly mineral finish.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
