Wine of the Week

Tio Pepe [Fortified]
Producer: González-Byass
Region: DO Jerez-Xéres-Sherry, Manzanilla

Often it seems the wine world has lost sight of one of the world's most interesting wines: the solera-aged sherries from the Jerez region. This attractively priced "fino" sherry is good place to get reacquainted with these incredibly complex wines. Very good on its own or with food, and a great value. Serve well chilled.

A clean pale golden color with an intriguing nose: a slighly salty/umami character with the nuttiness typical of "flor" aged sherries. On the palate it's crisp and fresh with bit of an alcohol edge. The taste is rich and nutty (pecans/hazlenuts) with a fresh, pleasantly bitterish finish. Very good indeed.

A note to our readers:
I've used SRP, which is the normal price in Spain expressed in US dollars [Low=$5-9, Medium=$10-18, High=$19+]. The wines selected are usually moderately priced and generally exported around the world. Some exceptions happen...
