eh Sand, sea and sun

Finca Higueron

The perfect
'get away from it all'
holiday location

In our opinion, the beaches of the Costa de la Luz are the best in Europe. The sand is golden, the Atlantic Ocean is clean and all the long wide beaches have a gentle incline to the sea, making them safe, quiet and beautiful. Unlike many areas of Spain, the beachfront has not been developed and invariably the backdrop is either the undulating countryside or small villages and towns made up of one or two storey buildings. From the beaches at Tarifa to Cadiz there is something for everyone. In the height of summer, most beaches have life guards and beach bars where you can drink and eat all day and night.

If you want a cove, where there is a minimum tide, just north of the fishing port of Conil, there are three es that are accesses by steep stairways down the cliff face. They tend to be popular in the height of the summer, but they are great for snorkelling and there is an attendant for the cars.

The long beach at Bolonia, an expanse of clean white sand. And, also a few bars and restaurants

The beach at Zahara de los Atunas, on a busy day

After a busy day on the beach, nothing can be more relaxing than taking an evening cocktail, at Finca Higieron, as you watch the sun set over El Palmar to the west

Looking 6KM away from Finca Higueron is the long quiet beach at El Palmar. In the summer the few beach bars provide refreshments, but having a picnic on the beach is most enjoyable.

Going further north, towards Cadiz, in the height of the summer, the beaches become more crowded with Spanish holiday makers. Playa Victoria is the main beach of the city of Cadiz and in August it becomes crowded. But it is very pleasant having a drink or snack at a chiringutio while watching the crowds having fun.

The rocky beach and coves at Canos de Meca

Looking north to Zahora from Trfalgar lighthoues even in August it is never crowded.

The beaches are all safe, sandy and clean, with ample space even in the middle of summer. The beaches of Conil, 10 minutes from Finca Higueron, are divided by a small rocky outcrop. The northern side looks toward the harbour and cliffs.

The 10km unbroken stretch of beach from Zahora, through El Palmar and onto Conil, is clean safe and popular for sunbathing and swimming, surfers, wind surfers and occasionaly horse riders enjoy the openess, peace and quiet.

The Roman ruis of Baelo Claudia face south to Africa, to the west a huge sand dune is at the end of the beach.

Looking along Conil's main beach, toward El Palmar from in August. It is an ideal venue to have some fun and entertainement. In the summer as well as the beach bars and restaurantes, there is a Friday market, fairs and radio road shows! But there is just sooo much space.
