In our opinion, the beaches of the Costa de la Luz are the best in Europe. The sand is golden, the Atlantic Ocean is clean and all the long wide beaches have a gentle incline to the sea, making them safe, quiet and beautiful. Unlike many areas of Spain, the beachfront has not been developed and invariably the backdrop is either the undulating countryside or small villages and towns made up of one or two storey buildings. From the beaches at Tarifa to Cadiz there is something for everyone. In the height of summer, most beaches have life guards and beach bars where you can drink and eat all day and night.
The Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia face south to Africa, to the west a huge sand-dune is at the end of the beach.

After
a busy day on the beach, nothing can be more relaxing than taking an evening
cocktail, at Finca Higueron, as you watch the sun set over El Palmar to the
west.

Looking north to Zahora from Trafalgar lighthouse, the beach is so spacious,
even in August it is never crowded.
Conil is only ten minutes from Finca Higueron and the beach is an ideal
venue to have some fun and entertainment. In the summer months, as well
as chiringutios, they have bouncy castles, a fun fair, the Friday market
and radio road shows!

If you want a cove where there is a minimum
tide, just north of the fishing port of Conil there are three coves that
are accessed by steep stairways down the cliff face. They tend to be popular
in the height of the summer, but they are great for snorkelling and there
is an attendant who looks after the cars.
Going further north, towards Cadiz, in the height of the summer, the beaches
become more crowded with Spanish holiday makers. Playa Victoria is the main
beach of the city of Cadiz and in August it becomes crowded. But it is very
pleasant having a drink or snack at a chiringutio while watching the crowds
having fun.
